Here they are – 28 issues of one of the more celebratedcomics of past generations. Long before Spiderman, the Flash Wonder Woman andeven Superman and Batman, there werereal heroes: The Three Musketeers, Don Quixote, Robin Hood and Robinson Crusoe.They plied the pages of comic books right out of novels. And how many kidsthen, in their 70s and even 80s now, remember those book reports, straight fromthe pages of Classic Comics and Classics Illustrated – until teachers got wise.Because they were so popular, they went through many reprints. You could alwaystell if this was the first edition by its advertising the next issue inside thecover. Because of their popularity, they were reissued many times. For theClassics Illustrated aficionados, you could always tell how recent the book wasby looking at the highest number listed inside: the highest reorder number orHRN. The lower the number, the more valuable the book – because of its age.

Here we have a kind of starter’s kit, to begin building yourown collection. (PHOTOS SELECTED AT RANDOM). Some of the original or first print editions are worth hundredsof dollars. That also includes specific books, for many reasons, that wereprinted only once: The Cloister and the Hearth, The Black Tulip and Mr.Midshipman Easy, for example. Other editions gained value because of the coveror comic artists such as Alex Blum and H.C. Kiefer, who penned them. What we have here are 28 issues, all in veryreadable condition, some tattered (mostly outside; some covers did not holdwell), but still valuable because of their age. Remember – these comics hadtheir beginnings in the very beginning of the 1940s – before Pearl Harbor.Earlier issues, when they were called Classic Comics, especially firsteditions, grew in value. So did the first issues under the title of ClassicsIllustrated, such as The Last Days of Pompeii. Others because there were fewreprints, and still other because there were only one or two printings, such as“Arabian Nights,” “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and “King of KhyberRifles.” Who knows what you will find here. This entire batch of 28 issues –almost a sixth of the entire collection – is right here. What a better way tostart out – or to search for that hidden gem. Only $435 for the batch. May we add that theyare all in excellent shape.
