The Avro crest was rare and gives the date away as pre WW1.Photo shows the tailof the prototype Avro 504. The Aircraft was on a tour of Britain sponsored by the British Newspaper \'The Daily Mail\'in early 1914. The Daily Mail had their name emblazoned on both sides of the fuselage. Tour wasan effort to promote sales oftheir Newspaper and toraise awareness offlying in Great Britain.

This aeroplane visited many sea-side resorts around the country. This photograph was taken at Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The church, castle, white house & large building to the left still stand.SeeGoog Maps street-view of Foreshore Road.

The gentleman standing under the rudder was Avro Test Pilot; Fredrick Raynham.

The aircraft tail is interesting: note the sea rudder below the aircraft rudder and small rear float. Later designs increased the area of the tail fin with a set section of fin in front of the rudder.
