EARLY Antique Meat Cleaver Hunt & Sons England Circa 1809 Hand Forged Knife Axe.

FANTASTIC early meat cleaver! Fresh out of an old fashion New England country sale box lot! Part of an old collection of knives, cleavers, swords, axes, spears, pikes, and blades of all types. I bought the box of cleavers. This one is made by Hunt & Son. There appears to be some worn letter before “Hunt”. Based on the fact there is a crown stamped on the blade I’m going to assume this is a British maker. If it is it stands to reason William Hunt & Son is the maker. He started making hand forged blades in the late 1700’s. Come 1809 he brought his sons into the mix. I’m going to assume this cleaver was made not too long after that happened. It certainly looks and feels first half 19th century to me. Everything is in nice antique condition for something over 200 years old. I can’t find another cleaver made by them online anywhere. The buyer of this lot could have the only one out there. It’s a really neat piece. It’s so cool to hold an old tool with a blade like this. It can transport you back in history when it’s in your hand if you let your imagination wander. Approximately 16” long. The handle is a beautiful and has some old insect holes in it which really adds to the patina I think. Please check all the photos. Shipping is ASAP! Don’t miss this one!
