\"LA LOUVRE PARIS - The scene shows the Louvre Place \"Museum\" building. France not mentioned in old handwritten title. Palace(French:Palais du Louvre,Iis a formerroyal palacelocated on theRight Bankof theSeineinParis, between theTuileries Gardensand the church ofSaint-Germain l\'Auxerrois. Originally a fortress built in the medieval period, it became a royal palace in the fourteenth century underCharles Vand was used from time to time by thekings of Franceas their main Paris residence. Its present structure has evolved in stages since the 16th century. In 1793 part of the Louvre became a public museum, now theMusée du Louvre, which has expanded to occupy most of the building.

The present-day Louvre Palace is a vast complex of wings and pavilions on four main levels which, although it looks to be unified, is the result of many phases of building, modification, destruction and restoration. The Palace is situated in the right-bank of theRiver SeinebetweenRue de Rivolito the north and theQuai François Mitterrandto the south. To the west is theJardin des Tuileriesand, to the east, theRue de l\'Amiral de Coligny, where its most architecturally famous façade, theLouvre Colonnade, and thePlace du Louvreare found. The complex occupies about 40hectaresand forms two mainquadrilateralswhich enclose two large courtyards: theCour Carrée(Square Courtyard), completed underNapoleon I, and the largerCour Napoléon(Napoleon Courtyard) with theCour du Carrouselto its west, built underNapoleon III. The Cour Napoléon and Cour du Carrousel are separated by the street known as thePlace du Carrousel.

The Louvre complex may be divided into the \"Old Louvre\": the medieval and Renaissance pavilions and wings surrounding the Cour Carrée, as well as theGrande Galerieextending west along the bank of the Seine; and the \"New Louvre\": those 19th-century pavilions and wings extending along the north and south sides of the Cour Napoléon along with their extensions to the west (north and south of the Cour du Carrousel) which were originally part of thePalais des Tuileries(Tuileries Palace), burned during theParis Communein light edge or corner ware present from normal usage of the past 150 or so years.
