BASKETS BEING LABELED AS WEDDING TRAYS, NAVAJO BASKETS ETC. ...THE GREAT MAJORITY OF THESE are NOT what they portend to be.THIS ONE IS A REAL one that is very well made, and sturdy compared to others we just mentioned above. A nice old basket in a classic form with nine points. It is made of willow, sumac, and dyed sumac on a three rod willow coiled foundation with a nice herringbone rim.These are typically made by the San Juan Paiutes who sell them to the Navajo who use them in various "sings" and other religious / social rites. The shaman is then paid with the baskets. He then takes them to the local trading post and sells them to procure his wages for services rendered and the trading post gets them out to the collectible market.A nice authentic example. SIZE: It measures approx. 11 5/8 +/- inches in diameter at the opening
and is approx. 2 3/4 +/- inches deep.
