Porcelain bust of a young Mother with her small Child in her arms, with the child’s head resting on her shoulder. Hand-painted in full color. Both gaze pensively forward, as though lost in this moment of intimacy between mother and child. Glossy finish. A porcelainsculpture(bust) manufactured by Kaiser Porcelain (Germany) in a Limited Edition of 6 sections of 250 each - total 1500 sculptures. Each section is one of three different color treatments, each color done in both matte and glossy finish, for a total of six variations (sections). This example (1) has the mother (Maria) dressed in blue and the child in pink. The other color treatments are (2) Maria in pink with the child in blue, and (3) all white. Of the entire edition of 1500, only 250 were hand painted in these glossy colors, of which this is #29. The sculpture sits on a custom wooden base, approximately 5 inches (12.5 cm) by 6 inches (15 cm). Height with stand approximately 9 1/2 inches (24 cm). The original issue price in 1983 was $595 each for the hand painted versions. Edna Hibel is one of the most well-respected artists of our time. From 1934 to 1939, she studied at the prestigious Boston Museum of Fine Art, and, at age 22, became the youngest artist ever to exhibit in a major American museum. She has had major exhibitions all over the world, and was the first American woman to exhibit in Jerusalem and the People’s Republic of China.
