EXTREMELY RARE C. 1850’s PARIS PORCELAIN PLATEPROPERTY OF “SAMUEL F.B. MORSE” & “SARA E. MORSE” (his wife): MONOGRAMED IN CONJOINED LETTERS IN GILDINGAND GRISAILLE SARA E. MORSE. An attachednote tell us that it was a gift to the Morses by his friends “in recognition ofhis invention”. TWO OF US BOUGHT THIS PLATEAT AN UPSTATE N.Y. BENEFIT sale WHERE IT HAD BEEN DONATED BY MORSE’S GRANDDAUGHTER“MISS CLARA MORSE”. It was in perfect conditionwhen we bought it but broke in half in transit.Both halves are missing a half-moon curve at one area of the rim and there’sone chip to the high footrim. Originalnote attached to plate at sale included.RARE BUT OBVIOUSLY DAMAGED. 9 ½”DIAMETER WHEN PUT TOGETHER. MARKED INUNDERGLAZE RED “A. HACHE & PEPIN LEHALLEUR PARIS” in ring around “VIERZON/PARIS”.
