HISTORICAL HENRY DISSTON EAGLE MEDALLION & ETCH RIP SAW 1865: $185.00
HISTORICAL HENRY DISSTON EAGLE MEDALLION & ETCH RIP SAW 1865 Here is a rare Henry Disston1865 saw. A Henry Disston 28” No. 7 rip saw. It is the saw that started it allfor Henry Disston and this one is a very important and rare saw. It is veryrare when you can pinpoint an antique to an exact date. Here is such a case.Disston started using an etch logo on his saws in 1865, before that they werestamped. Yet also in 1865 Henry Disston’s son, Hamilton, returned from theCivil War and officially joined the family business in management. Thus, thename was changed to “DISSTON AND SON” Thus the etch changed in 1865, and findinga \"Henry Disston\" saw with a HENRY DISSTON etch is very rare. TheDisstonian website says that a few exist. Well here is one. The beech wood handleis in fine condition with good horns top and bottom. The handle has not beenremoved from the saw plate and the sanding marks on the hardware match thesanding marks on the beech wood. The deep set eagle medallion is crisp andunbuggered. The saw plate is in good condition, with no rust or pitting and a clear etch. The nib up front is MIA. I have notsharpened this saw as I see it as a historical saw for a collection. Yet theteeth are in good shape with none broke or chipped. A very historical saw. Thisis a piece of history that you become the new caretaker of – preserving itsperfection for future generations to study. I am offering currently a rareDisston & Son saw that in the historical timeline came right after thissaw. It has a Henry Disston medallion & a Disston & Son etch from thesecond half of 1865. Topclass, excellent in every way. Will purchase with confidence.
