These holes occur from the elements beating down upon them over many years. There are also speculations that these mysterious stones may have been formed by a “worm hole”. A Hag stone is also known as a Witch Stone or Adder Stone or Holey Stone and has quite a bit of lore and many magical properties associated with them. Part of the folklore is that if you look through the holes you can see fairies.
