The eye-catching layered patterns on the surface make it a favorite among enthusiasts.- Our billets are made from a combination of high carbon steel (1095) and low carbon alloy steel (15N20). They are folded and forged together five times, resulting in up to 200 layers. Damascus steel is known for its excellent edge retention.- The billet is provided in an annealed state and is ready to use. Depending on your cutting method, such as stock removal or laser cutting, the Damascus pattern may temporarily disappear. However, it can easily be restored with a solution of ferric chloride and water or sulfuric acid and water. The time required to reveal the Damascus pattern depends on the concentration of the acid solution and your desired pattern contrast. Afterward, rinse with clean water to remove any acid impurities, and apply a protective layer of oil or wax to prevent rusting. Heat treatment is recommended before polishing and acid etching for the best results.
