Italian Royal Army original Cavalry h e l m e t from the King Vittorio Emanuele II, period (1849/1878). It is not complete, the metal chin strap, the side rosettes and maybe more are missing.It is quite used, the crest is fixed in one place with a lanyard and has various signs of use.It is a troop model, much rarer than the Officer's model which had slight differences. It is still intact and is still a wonderful, completely original headdress, one of the most beautiful ever conceived. It is a piece that in a state of completeness and in very good condition, reaches a valuation in Europe of over 6000 dollars. Shipping euro 39.00.
"Its origins date back to 1820, the year in which Vittorio Emanuele I, King of Sardinia, approved a new type of headgear intended for the Royal Piedmont cavalry regiment. It consisted of a cup in shiny yellow metal with the lower part wrapped in black bear fur and bearing, in the lower part, a border also in yellow metal. The visor was also in leather covered with fur. The chin straps were made of leather covered with brass flakes like fish scales, joined by a metal buckle. The brass sheet crest was curved and sloping forward. Richly inlaid with relief motifs, it covered the upper part of the helmet from the neck cover to the forehead, up above the frieze where it presented an oval disc decorated with a scroll motif. The relief frieze, placed on the front, was in brass composed of a crowned eagle with spread wings with an oval shield in the chest and inside the Savoy cross, surrounded by laurel and oak leaves, a banner on each side with Savoy cross inside.With this helmet, the Italian Cavalry faced the 1st World War, taking care to cover the glowing headdress with a special green cloth cover".
