KOREAN WAR USMC PRITZKER G-1 FLIGHT JACKET VMF-214 \"BLACK SHEEP\":
$5499.00

Gentlemen,

Offered here is this one-of-a-kind G-1 made by A. Pritzker & Sons, Inc., under contract N383S 319A, being one of the earliest of the Spec. 7823.

This jacket belonged to Lt. Ralph A. Graninger. He was a F-4U Corsair pilot who flew in VMF-214 and VMF-312 during Korean War. He was awarded with Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and as far as I read, he had a plane lost by engine failure near Yanggu (uninjured and rescued).

On August 3, 1950, VMF-214 became the first Marine squadron to see action in Korea, when they launched from USS Sicily and executed a raid against enemy installations near Inchon. The Black Sheep completed two combat tours in Korea. They participated in key battles, including the Inchon landing and the United Nations's defeat and withdrawal from Chosin Reservoir. In these and other battles, they provided nearly continual air cover, interdicting supply and communication lines, and inflicting heavy damage on numerous ground emplacements, and enemy armor.

This jacket is in great condition considering it is almost 70 years old. The goatskin leather has developed that “been there, done that” look and the mouton fur collar has developed the rusty-brown tone. Knits have been replaced properly with the correct materials.

Upper left chest depicts a leather name tag, printed “2ND LT. R. A. GRANINGER USMC".

Lower left chest depicts an extremely escarce theater-made "VMF-312" patch.

Right chest depicts an extremely escarce theater-made "VMA-214" patch.

Left shoulder depicts a very rare theater made 1st Marine Division "finger" patch.

White "USN" stencil under the collar still looks sharp.
