Large Antique 19th C. Old Green Painted Game Board Hand Carved Checkers 1800's:

Antique Primitive 19th Century Painted & Carved Wooden Checkerboard, C. 1850-1880. The best early paint, with the board & tops of the breadboard edges in a wonderful shade of green. The alternating carved playing pieces are in a tan or dark ivory, which are carved lower on the board. The other squares are in a reddish brown, which are at the same level as the board itself. The difference in the height of the squares give the board a 3-dimensional look. The sides of the breadboard ends & the back of the board are in a black paint, which shows wear in some areas. This early Gameboard measures 23” tall by 13 3/8” wide & the breadboard ends are 1 1/2” thick. It has a hole for hanging at the top & is constructed with hand cut square nails.

There is wear, splits & a small piece missing from one of the edges (see pictures). Please see pictures for the most accurate description of the condition. This came from an old collection in Pennsylvania several years ago.
