This is a fantastic leather desk organizer or travel stationery attache designed to house documents. Very ergonomic and compact with dividers. High level of craftsmanship in the leather work with beautiful bright brass lock hardware. Unfortunately there is no key. Likely dates from around 1890. The exterior is black leather with green silk lined interior.This was a luxury item in its day with hand made quality and details throughout. Marked Franz Hiess & Söhne, Vienna (Austria), this firm was well known for producing high end luxury items.Good condition, supple leather with light surface wear/marks, signs of use, edge wear to bottom. Aged smell to the leather. Please review photos for further assessment. Measures closed 9 inches wide, 7.5 inches high, 1 inch deep.
