MEXICAN CANISTER SHOT, MENGER HOTELBATTLE OF THE ALAMO, 1836

This lead Mexican small canister shotis one of about a dozen found in the garden behind the Menger Hotelin 1860 & came out of the remains of a Mexican canister. It is about3/8” diameter & 3/8” long & is in as found condition witha gray & white patina. There wereseveral of this type of (fired) canister slightly flattened out foundinside The Alamo.

Itwas found by Sergeant Edward Bothwell of Edgar’s Battery, AlamoGuards, Texas State Troops in 1860 when the battery was being formed. This is one of several that were bought directly the Boswellfamily in by James Andrews in the 1890\'s, he was the Curator of theBrownsville United Confederate Veterans & Texas History Museum &had an Alamo artifacts display. JamesAndrews had a great interest in The Alamo & collected as manyartifacts as he could find. He had a relative that died at The Alamo so he had agreat respect for the artifacts from this historic sight. He took these artifacts home with him when themuseum closed down in 1929.

It comes with a certificateof authenticity & a very detailed Andrews Collection letter fromthe great grandson of James Andrews who inherited the collection.
