Master Watanabe Masao渡辺正雄\"Mushin\" - vintagesosaku(\"creative\") kokeshi from Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Most likely from the 1960s or 1970s. A beautiful example of the famed kokeshi Master\'s award winning work.

This kokeshi\'s motif is \"Mushin,\" a mental state which is achieved when a person\'s mind is free from thoughts of anger, fear, or ego during combat or everyday life. There is an absence of discursive thought or judgment, so the person is totally free to act and react towards an opponent without hesitation and without disturbance from such thoughts. Zen and Daoist believers, as well as martial artists and artists, attempt to reach this state via meditation.

The kokeshi features a gorgeous kimono with a subtle plum blossom motif, a truly gorgeous design.

This is a medium-size piece - it will be a noticeable decorative accent in your home.
