Offering a delightful antique pup in a top hat piece by Meriden Silver Plate Co. I cannot find a single example in my research.

Measurements: 2 3/16” tall; hallmarks on bottom

Condition: vintage condition with wear consistent with age, use, storage, & production, as shown, including patina, wear to finish, and definite dents/impressions (more notable in different positions, as demonstrated in the pictures). While these are offered as hat pin holders, it seems just as likely, if not more so, it is an individual shaker. The holes vary in size/allowance. I had the cat version of this (SOLD) and the bottom of the cat one screwed off and revealed a reservoir. This one, however, I cannot open, though I can hear something inside. The cat piece had a slip of paper inside, so I am assuming it would be the same for the dog. This difficulty to open may be what happens to some and leads to the thought of it being a hat pin holder over shaker. Regardless of its original intended purpose(s), it’s a delightful and RARE piece and shall be packaged with care. Thanks for looking & happy collecting!
