NAPOLEON BONAPARTE (1769-1821)LETTER SIGNED, “Np”, one page, 7.25 x 9, January 26, 1808. Letter to hisMinister of War, Henri-Jacques-Guillaume Clarke, concerning the transfer oftroops. In part, translated:“General Clarke, I agree with this distribution of four thousand men and jointhem as soon as possible.” In finecondition, with fold lines, and small chips on lower left edge.

This letter waswritten at the advent of the Peninsular War following the invasion andoccupation of Portugal(19-30 November 1807), when French troops started occupying strategicallyimportant locations in Spain.The troop transfer could also be in connection with the occupation of the Papal States onFebruary 2, 1808.
