WWI PENNSYLVANIA NATIONAL GUARD 28TH DIVISION MEDAL WITH ORIGINAL RIBBON AND RIBBON PIN SUSPENSION.


CONDITION IS VERY FINE WITH SOME ACTUAL USE AFTER THE WAR, SOME HANDLING AND A NICE OLD PATINA FROM ITS 106+ YEARS.


The Pennsylvania division, known as the 28th Division, was called up in the wake of America\'s entry into WW1 (1917-1918). America entered the war during the last two years. The division took part in six major campaigns in France and Belgium resulting in more than 14,000 battle casualties. With its entry into the war, the American forces helped turn the tide to the Allied victory. On July 15, 1918, elements of the division beat back German attacks along the Marne River. Pockets of division Soldiers were surrounded and cut off but fought at the company and platoon level in a ferocious defense of their positions, beating their way through German lines and back to secondary defensive positions. The 28th Division’s defiant stand earns its soldiers the moniker “Men of Iron” from General of the Armies John Pershing, commander of the Allied Armies.


28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania National Guard service medal with ribbon and ribbon bar :


Medal features a likeness of William Penn in its center. Surrounding him are the words, \"PENNSYLVANIA NATIONAL GUARD WORLD WAR.\" In between the words \"World\" and \"War\" is the 28th Division\'s insignia with \"PNG\" inside of it. On the reverse side of the medal is a picture of an eagle flying and at the bottom, the 28th Division\'s insignia with the number \"28\" inside of it. The ribbon attached to the medal features the colors of a double rainbow, with a thin white stripe and navy stripe on either side of the rainbows. It fastens in the back with a pin. The medal comes with a ribbon bar with the same design as the ribbon.
