Gerardus Verscharen (or Van Scharen) ± 1588 - 1635 - Monastery name: Joannes Evangelista van 's-Hertogenbosch. Capuchin (from the Belgian and from 1616 from the Flemish Province). Son of Jacobus and Maria van Opdenbosch; half-brother of the Capuchins Arnoldus (Joannes Baptista van 's-Hertogenbosch) and Balthasar (Juvenalis van 's-Hertogenbosch) Born around 1588-1589. Started his Artes studies at the pedagogy Het Varken in Leuven in October 1605 and was promoted to licentiate in Artes on November 19, 1607 (33rd of 123 candidates. Professed in Ghent on October 28, 1614. Ordained as a subdeacon in Mechelen on December 17, 1616; as a deacon and priest in Antwerp on 22 December 1618 and 25 May 1619, Discreet in Kortrijk in 1620 and in Leuven in 1628-1630; Tervuren in 1630-1633 and in Leuven in 1633 until his death on November 2, 1635. He was also novice master in Leuven when he was a guardian there. 1635.Most important mystical author of the Order in the Netherlands. The Archbishop of Mechelen charged him with investigating the accusations made by Sister Margriet Smulders about abuses in her convent.
