Here is an excellent Olympia SM9 from 1969. This machine came to me practically brand new. Either it was stored and never used, or taken excellent care of. The rubber feet, paper feed rollers, and platen are still in great shape. The entire machine was disassembled, cleaned, and serviced by a repair tech with over 40 years experience. A lot of typewriters on are being sold without any work done to them - this machine is ready to start writing out of the box. There's no restoration project here. If you want a machine that does not need any service, rest assured this is the machine for you.
The type alignment has been carefully set so that your letters are perfectly aligned. The ring and cylinder has been adjusted so that your type slugs are hitting the paper at the proper force. (This is also something that most machines being sold on haven't had done to them.) This machine features Pica typeface, the larger of the two typefaces found on typewriters. (10 characters per inch vs. 12 characters per inch on the Elite typeface machines.)
The case is in excellent condition as well.
While this machine came to me in excellent condition, a lot of work was still done to it to ensure that it continues to work flawlessly for decades to come. A lot of people count the SM9 as one of the best typewriters to own. Famous users of the SM9 include: Paul Auster, Harlan Ellison, William Goldman, David Mamet, Neil Simon, Sam Shepard, and Marguerite Yourcenar.
