Original1899antique color lithograph titled The Flags of the Union,printed morethan 120 yearsago.

The image area measures 33 x26.8 cm [13" x 10½"] andfeatures a handsome gallery of flags, banners, and pennants of theUnited Statesof America.
The official U.S. flag at that time had 45 stars.
Other flags shown include the Union Jack, Colonial Flag,Bunker Hill Flag,and the "Original Stars and Stripes," also known as the Cowpens Flag.
The slogans in the scrollwork at the bottom of thelithograph read:"One Flag, One Cause, One Country" and "United We Stand, Divided WeFall," wordswhich have a specialresonance today.
Beneath the U.S. pennant and shield are portraits of two of thekey admirals of the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War: George Dewey and William Thomas Sampson.
Text in the lower margin describes certain flagprotocols, including theflying of a flag at halfmast as a sign of mourning.
