Original Air Show Poster from WillowGrove NAS/JRB AirFest 2006 June 16th - 18th WillowGrove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base was located just north of WillowGrove Pennsylvania and was closed down in 2011.Today a small portion of the original base is now the Horsham Air GuardStation home to the 111Attack Wing as well as Army Reserve andArmy National Guard forces. Flightactivity began in 1926 when Harold Pitcairnconstructeda hangarand a grass airstrip in Horsham, Pennsylvania. From1926 to 1942 Pitcairn used the airfield for design, construction and testing ofa number of aircraft, including the Mailwing Biplanes which were used by the United States Postal Service.
After thestart of World War II, the United Statespurchased the property and launched aclassified anti-submarine warfareprogramat the base. Following WWII and into the Cold War, it became an operational and training base foraviation activities of the Naval Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army Reserveand Army National Guard. As part of its jointrecruitment efforts, the base was an annual host to one of the largest air showson the East Coast until 2006.
