Dating to the mid 1930’s, this exceptional pair of marbled plastic lamps is an exceptionally rare example of Tenite as used in everyday decorative objects. Tenite was a brand of cellulosic thermoplastic materials produced by the Eastman Chemical Company. It was first Created in 1929, and trademarked in 1932. Tenite has been used in a wide variety of consumer, industrial, architectural and medical applications. Historically, applications for Tenite have varied from radios and telephones, to toys, toothbrushes and eyeglass frames. Objects manufactured from Tenite were known to slowly deform and warp over decades, which makes these 90 year old lamps all the more exceptional, in that their distortion is extremely slight.* Please note the first 2 photos were created in photoshop using one of these lamps. All other photos represent exactly what is being offered here.
These lamps have been restored and refurbished and are in excellent working order. The handsomely marbled Tenite components have been cleaned and hand polished. Chrome fittings have been cleaned and polished. Metal bases have been machine polished. The original push switched socket interiors have been refurbished with vintage stock. Power cords have been refurbished with new vintage rayon covered cord and appointed with appointed with new vintage style plugs. These lamps accept a standard medium base light bulb. The double-clip shades require a torpedo shaped bulb. Two new bulbs of this type will be included with your purchase.

*NOTE: The Tenite components show remarkably little distortion from the passage of time. Warpage is most noticeable on the bottom round pieces resting on the metal base, which are off-round when examined with scrutiny. There are also a couple small spots of deterioration. Lastly, the two central pieces do not align absolutely perfectly where they meet.Please refer to the final two photos for representative views of the above.
