For sale is a pair of beautiful and elegant antique to high vintage Japanese Kutani vase lamps with fine capiz shell shades. The vases are square shaped in the bottom section and tapered round mouth. The vase decoration starts with a band of Buddhist motifs, then floral patterns are superbly hand painted with great details in copper red and shade; there are four round window one on each side featuring the Four-virtues plants in Japanese culture, i.e. plum flowers, pine tree, bamboo and lily in various glazes of green, blue etc. The shoulder area has various interesting Japanese patterns transitioning into the cylinder shaped neck with small round windows of delicate flowers, ending with a flared mouth of the vase. Both vases are mounted on beautifully carved wooden bases. The shades are made from the finest capiz shells with sheer elegance.We had once sold an antique pair of round Kutani porcelain vase lamps to a gentleman from Hawaii for $1350.00， which has conventional clothe shades. This pair now in listing is taller, and has more interesting cultural elements and color glazes, and above all, it has so finely crafted beautiful capiz shell shades as you can see. And both lamps are in excellent condition and come from well cared nonsmoking home. The somewhat slender lamps remind one of geisha courtesans holding umbrella.
