I like this photo. The woman is confident and calm as she looks obliquely off camera. Her taffeta dress shows us a moire effect and her brooch accents her face.
On the front, below the image, are printed in silver letters:\"Newcomb\" and\"In Bartlett BuildingOn 2D St., Over Racket Store\"
There were several photographers named Newcomb in the southwest at the end of the 19th Century. Some were in Utah, but the one in Pomona also used this same font, though I cannot find this address associated with any of them. The photo might be from farther east, too. The image is clear and the sitter\'s personality comes through.

Photo measures 5.5 x 3.875 inches. Vignette portrait is about 2.75 x 2.75 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn\'t able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it\'s a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
