Pre-Colombian Pottery (3) Pieces:

For your consideration, three pieces of pre-Colombian pottery. I purchased these from the estate of a retired anthropology professor formally with the University of Pennsylvania, ca 2006. She had traveled and collected extensively in Central America as well as the South Pacific. The pieces include:
1. A black fired clay jar/cup/vessel, impressed with unique star shape designs, small circles and other non geometric stamps around its outer circumference. 2. A black fired clay jar/cup/vessel, impressed with the same designs as #1 but lacking the small circles. 3. Three fired and conjoined clay pots, devoid of decorations.
In addition to these pieces I purchased a number of 19th century throwing sticks, short spears and an incredible Tongan chief’s ceremonial staff. These pieces I later sold to a private museum in New Zealand. I totally forgot about the pottery and only recently rediscovered it when cleaning up my basement.
Note: I have seen similar utilitarian jar/cup/vessels, having the same design features, attributed to the Mayan culture and originating in El Salvador. The conjoined pot is a mystery you will have to unravel! My guess it served as a paint pot.
