Scarce original WW1 era or Pre War Solid Copper Cavalry Horse Bridal Rosette. Research seems to yield these would have been worn on Model 1904 McClellan Saddle used by all cavalry troops. This is more of a flat example and does not have the curves a lot of the ones for sale do. I saw some reference these flatter ones are generally considered the 1st pattern rosette. They were made much earlier most likely all Pre War and were made in much much smaller quantities than the rounded edge variants. Making this a very rare and interesting little buckle.

This buckle does exhibit a number of scrapes, scratches and wear and there is a slight bend to the attachment piece on the back but nothing that wouldn\'t make it useable. Very interesting it appears to me to be a dug rosette from the patina to the remnants of dirt or dust in all of the recessed areas. That being said ti appears that it was dug a very long time ago. I cannot say if this was of the battlefield in France or if this was found out in a training camp out west. It somehow ended up at an antique shop in middle NY with no information or evidence as to what it was. It does appear to have spent a long time in the ground and your guess is as good to mine as to where that was.

The piece in my opinion I think actually look a decent bit better in hand! The photos really highlight the period scratches. That being said at just adds to the history!
