RARE 1929 National Miner's Union Communist Pamphlet about John L Lewis of UMWA:
$24.95

Extremely rare original copy of 1929 National Miner's Union (NMU) Communist Pamphlet about John L Lewis of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA).The title of this pamphlet is "LEWIS-John L. Czar of the U. M. W. A. Servant of the Big Coal Interests AN EXAMPLE OF AN A. F. of L. LEADER" Written by Tom Myerscough, then president of the National Miner's Union (NMU).The NMU wasadualworkers' association established in the USA by the Communist Party of USA in 1928 under the backing and support of theRed International of Labour Unions(Profintern), the international trade union authority of theCommunist International(Comintern). The union was affiliated with theTrade Union Unity League,American counterpart of the Profintern.

The NMU conducted controversial and violent strikes during 1931, culminating in a call for a general strikeon New Year's Day, 1932. This effort was crushed by mine owners andthe UMNAand the NMU was effectively broken and powerless until its dissolution at the behest of the Comintern in 1935.

This very rare original copy of a very early communist union pamphlet is believed to have been written and published in 1929, or possible in early 1930. The pamphlet outlines the life and career of John L. Lewis, president of the UMWA from 1920 to 1960. The pamphlet claims that Lewis was in the pocket of non-union coal mining interests, corrupt, and had stolen elections to become the president of the UMNA.

Tom Myerscough was a communist dissenterwithin the UMNA and against John L. Lewis during the 1920s. Myerscough became a member of the NMU and was elected president in about 1929.

This pamphlet is 40 pages and measures about 6" by 4.5". The paper pamphlet is yellowed with age and is fragile, but in excellent condition. All pages and binding are intact. The cover sheet has a slight tear at the seam.

The pamphlet was printed by an Allied Printing Trades Council union printing shop in New York, New York (shop #209). The pamphlet was published by the author, Tom Myerscough.
