RARE EARLY to MID-18TH CENTURY ENGLISH JACOBEAN PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE SHALLOW CARVED, DARK STAINED PINE WOODEN, RECTANGULAR BIBLE BOX with FLORAL CENTER LID MEDALLION ROSETTE, ORIGINAL CUT BRASS, RECESSED REAR HINGES, SINGLE BOARDFLOOR & LID with NAILED CORNERS[The English Jacobean, early-mid 18th century antique Bible box was found on the Massachusetts & New Hampshire border in an early farmhouse located on a country, rural estate. Its lid, as well as its single wood plank board floor, appear to have very old repairs made to them both, as a result of possibly the wood drying & subsequently cracking, creating fractures, which look to have been reinforced with some form of adhesive compound. We haven't touched the box, including dusting, washing or oiling it. It remains in exactly the same condition it was found in the early home it was removed from. Circa 1735 to 1765, the English Jacobean antique Bible box was most likely brought to the New World & to New England in the early-mid 18th century, pre-dating by a significant amount, the United States War of Independence from the British Crown. It boasts wonderful shallow surface carving, with a distinctly floral theme. As with many English Jacobean antique hand carved Bible boxes, it features a round center medallion, with the outreaching petals of a stylized, abstract flower within it. The punched keyhole located on the front sidewall of the box has no key escutcheon or fastened, surrounding metal key plate or metal lock hardware. In dry, matte wood finish with terrific, naturally aged wood color & patina. This magnificent English Jacobean Bible box now approaches its 3ooth birthday, which is a remarkable accomplishment & feat, in & of itself. An extraordinary early New England antique cultural artifact brought over by religious pilgrims & early English colonists to the New World. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall antique condition.(*Old repairs made to the lid and wood plank floor were made previously & appear to be old repairs made to the box many, many years ago. We haven't touched or altered the Bible box in any shape or form.)
