RARE Pre-WWII 1938 European Travel Diary incl Hitler’s Nazi Germany🔥Chilling❗️:

Author-Ms. M. L. Bonner of 3420 E. 1stStreet, Long Beach, CA (her house is still standing & looks nice.

— Writing is pretty clear and generally legible.

— Pages overall clean & crisp with some smudges, dirt,or marks on some pages.

Details:

Itis nearly full with the exception of a few blank pages. There are 115 pages ofwriting total (includes 5-6 pages of loose paper, doesn\'t include names/citiesof people she met on the trip written in the back).

Approximately15 - 17 pages deal with pre-war Germany (three deal with Austria specificallybut are tied into Germany).She gives firsthand accounts of Nazi, Germanyin these pages.Hitler& company are mentioned throughout her travels here.

Shegoes to Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia and back to Germany, where shedescribes Berlin, Sanssouci Palace, and Dresden. She goes to Holland, Belgium,England, Scotland, Denmark and Sweden. She attends Schiaparelli and Molyneuxfashion shows in Paris, countless museums and landmarks across Europe, andspeaks of the beauty she sees, unaware that some of it will be soon be reducedto rubble.She is, however, aware of the plight of the Jews at this time,but this is only mentioned casually. She iscarefree, enjoying life andluxuries in stark contrast to what the Jews of Germany/Europe were suffering inthe same time and place.

Thediary has a leather cover with wear. Itmeasures 6.5\" x4.75\".There are some folded up papers with additional writing tuckedin the book.

Feb.17th: “…went to Chicago Art Gallery on Michigan Ave. Saw Song of the Lark,Stewarts Washington, Sargents Honorable Lady Winstow. We liked Am. & FrenchLaundrys best. ‘American Gothic’ by Grant Wood. ‘El Mochs’ by Hurd. Took busride up Mich (indecipherable) past Lincoln Park…”

Feb.18th:”Dodge Hotel, Washington, DC…P.M. went to Smithsonian Institute in taxi.Picked up tickets to Julius Caesar on the way. Saw Spirit of St. Louis as wewent in. Gen. Grant’s (indecipherable) on World Trip. Statue of Freedom, sameon top of Capitol. All presidential ladies’ dresses; Mrs. Coolidge in flamevelvet with P. Phi pin, Mrs. Van Buren in blue velvet & lace, the best.Pershings Map of World War, Washington’s buckskin suit…We went to OrsonWells’ ‘Julius Caesar’, wonderful.Lookslike Hitler,no scenery, no costumes, no stops.\"

“…walkedto Italian border, saw Am. Destroyer Raleigh…met Lieut. on Raleigh…”

“…Arrivedat Munich at 9:30…very strict on the border. Opened music box,(indecipherable) all money.Red swastika flags everywhere and uniforms.”

“Wed.30th. Started tour of city at 9:30, American Express man praises Hitler highly,‘This is Hitler’s home comes every Saturday, flies back Tuesday.’ Saw the forumhe built with 2 sentries on each side guarding tombs of soldiers killed whowere Hitler’s bodyguard. Also saw monument to Great War soldiers…went toCarlton Tea Room, where Hitler goes. 3 big crowded rooms. Men & womendrinking…”

“April1st: train ride to Vienna. Very pretty country. Lots of peasant women workingin fields, lots of teams working, but large houses, especially closer toVienna. 3 officers in our compartment. 1 older 40 blue grey uniform , 2 youngblack uniform. Black riding boots, spurs, sword (older one), revolvers(younger), passed a thousand cars bringing soldiers to Vienna for plebiscite.Lots of motorcycles and trucks. Train of soldiers.Salzburg-Nazi flags everywhere. Train of school children, ‘We thank our leader,’ ‘One folk, 1reich, 1 leader’…wentto Am. Exp. No Austrian money or registered marks. I have plenty, owing toyoung German. German always walks on the left…”

“Apr.2nd: …had an argument over charge in shillings. Marks are new to Austria.Somany soldier uniforms and parades here, it’s like American Legion convention.They sing as they march, seems always the same song. Kind of yellow uniforms.The concierge tells us they are true “legion” Austrian youths who left 5 yearsago and went to Germany & got military training. Now they can come home.Woman told us German soldiers are sent here to enforce the plebiscite…very bad here for the Jews, they tell us. We went to the Opera Coffee Shop and heard Hitler speak.Everyone stood afterwards during their song, sang and raised their right hand.Conciergesays we can take pictures.”

“Apr.5:…the American boys last night told us that most Austrians want to belong toGermany…the ride took us past Camblemzl (?) Hotel an old Austrian castle, tothe top of the (indecipherable) hotel, where we had tea. All the way back theguide talked about Austria. Was glad to go in with Germany.”
