Up for sale today is an antique piece of shaving history: An unnumbered "Gillette Double Ring PAT APL'D FOR" from late 1903 with the original "Chicago" case and "USED, UN-USED" blade sleeves. This model (model 100) was the first safety razor made by Gillette, and this exact unit was, in fact, one of that first specimens. This razor has no serial number, and the case style and type points us to the end of 1903 as manufacture date. In addition, this unit has the "PAT APL'D FOR" (located at the bottom of the handle) stamped in INVERTED position (see pictures) which makes this razor even more rare.In both blade sleeves ("USED, UN-USED") there are antique Gillette blades in very good condition, but I don't have enough skills to date them. There are 4 units in the "USED" sleeve, and 7 unused units in the "UN-USED" one. In the interior part of the lid, just behind the blue "Chicago" ribbon is located the original Gillette green "instructions book", which is complete and in very good condition given its age (see also pictures).The razor, blade sleeves, instructions book, blades and case are in very good/superb condition. The razor has no discoloration or bent teeth and preserves the original silver patina that can be easily cleaned by the final user. I never polish or remove patinas from the razors I sell. The handle has on the upper part a minor hairline crack (see picture), very common in the first Gillette razors. Exterior part of the case has some scuffs and marks but overall condition is very good. Please check out the pictures and do your own research. All original state with no replate, polish or modifications done; just light cleaning with cloth. The razor functions perfectly and opens and closes smoothly.Make an offer !!
