This is a vintage glass ashtray that was used in the United States Senate during the tenure of Senator Mike Mansfield as Majority Leader from 1961 to 1977. The ashtray is clear and bears the United States Senate logo and Mike Mansfield's signature with the title Majority Leader. It is a rare piece of political memorabilia that was manufactured in the United States.
Michael Joseph Mansfield (March 16, 1903 – October 5, 2001)was an American Democratic Party politician and diplomat who representedMontana in the United States House of Representatives from 1943 to 1953 andUnited States Senate from 1953 to 1977. As the leader of the Senate DemocraticCaucus from 1961 to 1977, Mansfield was the second longest-serving party leaderSenate history, after Mitch McConnell. During his tenure, he shepherded GreatSociety programs through the Senate. Please see photos for details. The seal and signature appear to be etched but there is a flaw in the lower left of the seal (there is a gap in a portion of the outer seal circle). This is a rare article of political memorabilia that you won't find often.
