Rare U.S. Bayonet Model of 1917, made by Remington. Bayonet measures 22\" overall with a blade length of 17\". Smooth gray blade, two toned, with some light age patina. Nice walnut grips showing No cracks our gouges. Excellent working press-stud. Ricasso markings, Eagle cartouche over \"15\" Flaming Bomb, \"X\" testing, U.S. stamped. The opposite side is marked, \"1918 REMINGTON\".Rarely did Remington make bayonets with the date 1918 instead of 1917. The reason for this is not known for sure, but it is believed that Remington changed the date to show the year of manufacture, and was ordered to change back as the date was to be left 1917 as the Model date. Comes with a Plastic Scabbard marked, \"US\" in a flaming bomb over \"M-1917\". Center of body shows a hand painted \"15\" with white paint along with the back throat area. Nice condition scabbard showing some surface scratches, no cracks. See photos. A rare piece!
