Rare Antique Vignaud VIG46 Saucer | c. 1911 - 1938:

This elegant saucer by Vignaud of Limoges France is hand painted anddecorated with 22 karat gold. It features a floral pattern interspersed withgorgeous pheasants, trimmed in gold. It is in very good condition with no chips,cracks, or crazing. There is some fading of the gold trim. Since the 18th century, from the start of production, the reputation ofLimoges porcelain has developed in such a way that the name of the city hasbecome synonymous with porcelain. In 1768 a riverbed with clay suitable formaking porcelain was found in France in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, close toLimoges. With this discovery Limoges porcelain originated and developedfurther. Limoges decorative style utilizes traditional porcelain subjects suchas small clusters of flowers picked out in jet. Gold and blue filigree laceworkis also very typical. The forms produced are simple and not numerous.
