Rare Antique Vignaud VIG46 Sugar Bowl & Lid | c. 1911 - 1938:

This elegant sugar bowl by Vignaud of Limoges France is hand paintedand decorated with 22 karat gold. It features a floral pattern interspersedwith gorgeous pheasants, trimmed in gold and with gold on the handles. It is inEXCELLENT condition with no scratches, cracks, crazing or repairs. Since the 18th century, from the start of production, the reputation ofLimoges porcelain has developed in such a way that the name of the city hasbecome synonymous with porcelain. In 1768 a riverbed with clay suitable formaking porcelain was found in France in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, close toLimoges. With this discovery Limoges porcelain originated and developedfurther. Limoges decorative style utilizes traditional porcelain subjects suchas small clusters of flowers picked out in jet. Gold and blue filigree laceworkis also very typical. The forms produced are simple and not numerous.
