Bisbee Minerals®Fine minerals and mining artifacts from Bisbee and around the worldPlease mark us as a favorite seller to receive instant listing notifications!Item Number: STG1FREE US SHIPPING!About this item(s): HUGE! Very rare calcite stalactite from the old (and long closed) Southwest Mine in Bisbee, AZ. Once in a lifetime purchase opportunity. Excellent condition with a few minor, natural contact points and no visible cracks. Was held at top and bottom to confirm stability.Remarks: Museum grade specimen. Provenance included with the specimen. Will be shipped via freight or can be picked-up at the Tucson Gem Show. All sales are final due to shipping risks.

Weight: >40 lbs.

Size: About 30\" x 9\" x 3\" (at longest, widest and thickest measurements).

Location of discovery: Southwest Mine, Bisbee, AZ.

Origin: Estate or private collection.

Gemologist / Geologist Notes: This stalactite was not the result of vandalism, but quite the opposite. During mining operations in Bisbee, many caves were discovered. Some contained beautiful (often colored) cave formations. Often, these caves could not be preserved as such large voids made mine stabilization very dangerous. Some caves were filled with rock waste to prevent cave-ins while others flooded or collapsed. Some miners realized the value of preserving stalactites and they were removed from the mines. Most were very small, generally smaller than 10 inches so they could fit into a lunchbox. Large stalactites from the Copper Queen mining region are extremely rare. This is the largest we have ever seen. This specimen is worthy of high-end museum display. Please note that access to these mines is no longer possible.Condition Notes: As seen in pictures. Most specimens not professionally cleaned so dirt may be present. Some specimens may be stabilized without our knowledge, as some processes are very hard to detect. Some specimens may have odors from long-term storage, old mounting glue, tags or mouthing material attached. Some specimens may not sit upright as seen in pictures and may require a stand or other propping device. Saw marks may be present on \"semi-polished\" rough or specimens.Images: All specimens are photographed with bright, natural sunlight at 5000K to 5500K and checked for correct color with a calibrated monitor. Specimens viewed in poor lighting or non-daylight illumination sources may not appear as in the photographs. Some specimens (as noted in the description) may be seen wet or damp to show lapidary potential. In such instances, received item(s) may appear duller until professionally polished.Warranty: We do our best to accurately describe our mineral specimens or rough. However, as it is with most minerals, it\'s impossible to determine the exact interior structure or content, so we cannot warranty or refund specimens or rough used for lapidary work. Such work is done at your own risk. We buy copper mining-related minerals, collections and estates.Returns and Terms: I strive to describe each specimen as accurately as possible, but it\'s always possible that I may miss something as an honest mistake, as some specimens are very complex and we all have varying degrees of acceptance. There are no returns on this large item due to obvious risks of return shipping.
