This is an extraordinary large Daprato religious statue. It is of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. Authentic Daprato Statuary are highly sought after. The company was founded in 1869 in Chicago Illinois. It was founded by the four DaPrato brothers, American immigrants from the Tuscan town of Barga, Italy. They were statue makers, in fact their entire town was statue makers. The younger brother, John E. Rigali was a bit of a prodigy statue maker. He began with the DaPrato brothers at the young age of 16. They began in a studio basement at Van Buren & Clark Streets. The older statues, as in this one, are highly collectible as they are no longer made and the Daprato family name stands for exquisite artistry like none other. this statue features vibrant blues and creams. It stands a tall 26" high and is 7 1/2" across the arms from left to right. It is in extraordinary condition having been stored for many years. There is a chip of paint off the back of the cloak which we showed in the photos. Mother Mary holds Baby Jesus with one of the most compelling expressions.
