For sale is one of the rarest of official Disneyland postcards—Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo Barbecue (Card 1120B (B-7). The restaurant was part of the early days of the Park in Frontierland right next to Aunt Jemima’s Pancake House from 1957-1962. It replaced Frito Lays that moved to the entrance of Frontierland. Don DeFore was a movie/TV star with star on Hollywood Blvd. He played Ozzie and Harriet’s first next-door-neighbor from 1952-1957 and while owning the restaurant was playing the role of “Mr. B” on the popular TV program, “Hazel.”

He was also president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for two terms 1954-1956. He sold the very first national broadcast of the Emmy Awards TV Show to NBC in1954 (extensive story in his son’s book, “Growing Up in Disneyland” by Ron DeFore). Walt Disney was one of the many people to congratulate Don and invited him to his Burbank Studios for a personal tour. Walt wanted to meet the guy that was able to sell the show as he noted to Don, “we and the board were never able to give the show away!”

In 1956 the DeFore family was asked to ride in the Disneyland Opening Day Parade in the Autopia cars up Main Street. A year later Walt offered Don the opportunity to own and operate his own restaurant in Frontierland. The DeFore brothers have given numerous presentations (including twice at D23 conventions) about their experiences. This post card is one of the few remaining from the Don DeFore family collection. The last time we know of one of these postcards selling was at a Disneyana Show and Sale in 2016—it fetched $900. This is for the very serious Disneyland memorabilia collector who knows its rarity and value. Post card is in new pristine condition.
