Revolutionary War Fire Cresset basket spike,:

Early pair of hand forged iron fire cressets. Circa. 17th or 18th century. Each measure 7" dia. × 111/2" long spike arm x 8" high. Knots of pitch pine or other woods and rush would be burned in the open bracket frame when light would be needed indoors or out doors. The spike would be driven into a wall beam timber or tree out doors. The Indians also used them in their canoes for night spear fishing. Rare to find a pair, especially this smaller size.
