the train’s namesake Station. These sleek “modern” Diesels
were often seen on runs between Chicago and western cities,
powering many of the railroads famed name trains. In 1960,
PA1 #53 was temporarily repainted “gold” for a GE special
event held in Los Angeles. Many of Santa Fe’s glamorous
Warbonnet Alco PA1s were retired and sent to scrap at
Barstow, CA in 1968. The rest were traded in to GE the
following year. A few wound up on the Delaware and
Hudson, working for a number of years in the 1970s.
