SUPER RARE CABINET PHOTO& CDV OF R. MCCHESNEY \"THE MOHAWK DUTCHMAN\" 1776 - 1876 - I can tell you without a doubt, this is an extremely rare pairing of a CDV and a Cabinet Photo of the gentleman known as, \"THE MOHAWK DUTCHMAN.\" R. McCheseny was his real name and he created many crafts or souvenirs for sale during the Centennial Celebration in 1876. You can see many of his wares for sale on the table beside him in the CDV image. What he was well known for crafting and talented for was cutting out intricate objects from one piece of wood. There is actually one particular item on the table actually contains the word \"Centennial and 1776-1876,\" which must have taken him absolutely days to carve. Notice how his preforming attire consisted of two pseudo Native American outfits, two different feather headdresses and a tomahawk can be seen held in his hand in the larger cabinet card. I am not sure if his costumes are any indicator whether he was truly a member of the Mohawk tribe or just part of his stage name. My hunch, is he created this particular persona and costumes to help sell more of his souvenirs during the Declaration of Independence festivities. I have only seen several other copies of the CDV which have all sold for more than $300.00, but I have truly never seen the cabinet card I am offering before. Needless to say, I wish all my clientele offerding on both of these wonderful and rare photographs good luck or if you wish to secure them for your collection, feel free to use my very fair Buy It Now option.
CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. Both the cabinet photo and CDV contain good contrast, tonal range and sharpness. The fine details are captured in both the costumes and The only flaw I can find on either image is a tiny number 3 written on the backside of the cabinet photo, otherwise they have sharp corners and edges. Both contain the photographer\'s stamps. What makes these extremely rare is they are being sold together possibly for the first time in many many years.NOTE: I will be selling a large number of early American Circus related cabinet cards and CDV\'s in the coming weeks.
