SUPERB GDA CHARLES FIELD HAVILAND LIMOGES LAVENDER GILDED CAKE PLATE, XCLNT COND:

Maker: This beautiful cake plate is by the iconic Limoges maker Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbott, or GDA, the firm begun by the legendary Charles Field Haviland.
Marks and age: It has the green underglaze \"GDA France” mark number 1 that was in use between 1900 and 1941, and the red circle decorator\'s mark number 4 that came into use in 1941. That makes it likely that this plate was produced in 1941, the only year the two marks overlap. Source: third edition of the Collector\'s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston.
Design: The pattern of delicate lavender, white and pink flowers and grey leaves is beautifully painted and the craftsmanship is of a very high standard. Elegant mottled gold handles highlight the very thin and translucent porcelain.
Condition: The plate is in excellent condition with no nicks, scratches, cracks, repairs, utensil marks or wear. There are a few dark marks and a bit of gold paint on the reverse that can be seen in the photos.
Size: The plate is 10 1/4 inches wide between the handles and 9 3/8 inches at the center.
