Description
Rare collectible Sarreguemines "The Broken Pitcher" French ceramic story tiledepicting an artisan mending pots. Surrounded by plates, jars, and pots, his distraught young customer looks on whilst he displays his skills. The cat at the young womans feet is likely the culprit for the broken pot. The artisans' second sign lists the various items that he mends and repairs. This decorative tile was produced by the "Faiencerie de Sarreguemines" in the early 20th century using the illustrations by the famed French artist Froment Richard /Antoine-Albert Richard.This artist was born in 1845 and died in 1921. You will find his initials "FR" on the green box in this illustration. The glazed tile measures 6 inches square. Condition is commensurate with age with small flakes and chips on the edge, staining and expected crazing, no cracks. This item is an antique and as such shows signs of its age and previous use.
