This book is in very goodcondition, clean, tight, and unmarked. The dust jacket has perimeterdiscoloration and edge wear. The prior owner\'s name is on the firstpaste-down page.

George Todd stood sixfeet, three inches and weighted 150 pounds. He had the distinction ofserving the Confederacy as the captain of the first company of thefirst regiment in Hood’s Texas Brigade. In May 1861 he enlisted inNew Orleans as a private in Company A., First Texas Infantry, Hood\'sTexas Brigade. Company A of the First Texas Infantry Regiment play apart in 38 skirmishes, battles, and campaigns. Of the 134 soldiers,27 were killed, 35 wounded, and 6 missing. Most of the men were fromMarion County in East Texas. Todd was made captain in 1862 and foughtin several major battles. He was wounded at Sharpsburg and resignedfrom the regiment on October 30, 1863. He served as adjutant of theThird Texas Cavalry from May 1864 to the end of the war. After thewar Todd returned to the Marion County to work as an attorney. Toddpublished a pamphlet, Sketch of History: TheFirst Texas Regiment, Hood\'s Brigade, in1909. Originally it was published by a Marion County newspaper, theJefferson Jimplecute.The original is a very scarce Texas Civil War item. This limitededition which contains a facsimile reprint of the of the original.Colonel Simpson’s introduction, bibliography, notes, and indexenhance this fine Texas Civil War item.
