LOT OF1 VINTAGE COMIC BOOK: TALES OF TERROR #1 PGX 6.5 With Exceptional White Pages From 1952. (Slight incidental glue on spine, no restoration.) Scarce Historic One-Shot From Toby Press With A Cheesecake/Horror Cover By Gene Fawcette Showing A Shapely Young Blonde In A Red Dress, Under A Mysterious Spell In The Dungeon. According To GPA Data, Only The Top Certified Mile High Pedigree Example Has Ever Surfaced In ANY Condition Above FN 6.0, So This Glorious Gem Is In Lofty Air Indeed! This Title Only Lasted This One Issue As E.C. Comics Already Had Their "Tales Of Terror Annual" Giant Editions, So The Two Competing Horror Titles Were Too Similar And This One Was Cancelled. This Features A Flying Saucer Story, And Great Art By Louis Ravielli. This Comic Is Essential For Any Fan Of Classic Good Girl Art Covers Or Pre-Code Horror, Or Key Golden-Age Comics In General, But It Has Always Been Tough To Obtain In Presentable Shape, And Downright Rare In Well-Preserved Mid-Grade Condition Like This. The Pre-Code HorrorCraze Was In Full Swing SoIt's Got The Ubiquitous Salacious Content Including Gore And/Or Good Girl Art, Monsters, Graphic Violence And Supernatural Themes. THE GREAT ONE SHOTS OF THE FIFTIES ARE OFTEN OVERLOOKED BY NOVICE COLLECTORS, BUTPROBABLY WON'T REMAIN AFFORDABLE FOR MUCH LONGER, SO DON'T MISS THIS FLEETING OPPORTUNITY. The Horror And Supernatural Themes Never Go Out Of Style! This hails from a dark, dry, pet-free, non-smoking, climate-controlled environment. Although it's seventy years old, it retains an amazing amount of luster and the eye appeal is impressive for the assigned grade. The protective case has some minor scuffs and scratches, nothing major but it isn't crystal clear in all areas, so perhaps it might be a good idea to submit this beauty to CGC or CBCS, it looks to have been graded strictly so it would likely get the same grade from another grading company and become one of the top few copies ever certified.
