Original manuscript letter addressed to Alexander Graham Esquire which date 1821. In reference to Charlotte & Family. (N Slaves)Dimensions: approx 7 x 6 inches.Poor condition. Folded with splits along the folds & creases. The upper quarter is detached. Lightly stuck to a an old piece of card for stability.We think this is the correct background please do your own due diligence just to reconfirm
Alexander was born in 1769 probably to William Alexander Graham and Margaret Graham probably in North Carolina.
An eminent pioneer of Telfair County. Father of Dougald Baxter Graham (1808-1883), who was so afflicted with acute rheumatism could not practice law and instead, taught school lying flat on his back. After Dougald\'s father passed away, he was in charge of a large family and many slaves. He taught all of his nieces and nephews, and the slaves at night and was well thought of. After the War Between the States. he traveled all over Georgia and Florida in a private conveyance, lying flat on his back, with a nephew in attendance, for teaching engagements.
He married Mary Smith possibly before 1808 in North Carolina. Mary\'s parents may have been Walter Smith and Ann Hance Mackall from Maryland. Together, Alexander and Mary may have had up to 15 children (only 10 are identified at this time, further research is needed to determine the other 5 children):
