The US military saw the success of German paratroopers in 1940, and quickly set about creating its own elite airborne units. US paratroopers jumped on Sicily in Operation Husky in 1943, and dropped into Normandy during the D-Day invasion in 1944. Those \"devils in baggy pants\"were issued a distinctive spot camouflage parachute, any surviving sections of which remain scarce today.This US Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SPOT CAMO PARACHUTE SECTION is in good condition, having been recently hand cut with pinking shears, and with some fraying and uneven cutting to the edges, the right end crafted of a slightly darker camouflage pattern than the remainder, though it was certainly \"close enough for government work\",heavy dark soiling at the right front and back, some loose stitching at the upper right front edge, a smallvertical cut in the bottom left edge,two small tears in the middle left side,a small spot of dark soiling at the upper middle front, a few spots of reddish brown fading at the upper left front and back,someoverall wrinkling, and with some scattered age wear evident(ALL pictured). Otherwise, the section is in fine shape, with no other damage to the smooth nylon construction. Most interestingly, it measures about 43\" x 22 1/2\" in an uneven rectangular shape, retains a great amount of the vibrant spot camouflage colors,and boasts the classic \"AN\" Army-Navy acceptance stamp in light blue lettering at the middle left front.It sports 4 horizontal rows of OD stitching across the top and bottom edges, along with two diagonal rows of OD stitching down the middle, carries the original brass \"riser ring\" at the upper left front, and is a fine example of a rare, originalUS Army WW2 D-DAY PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SPOT CAMO PARACHUTE SECTION.
