VINTAGE AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE 634 TRAIN BUILDERS PLATE 1906 & PROVENANCE:

This is a plaster casting of the Builders Plate that was on the front of American Locomotive engine 634, built in 1906. As described in the articles linked below, this engine was operated by Colorado and Southern and the Santa Fe until 1960. This locomotive was a 2-8-0 design with two additional driving axles and a larger frame and boiler for mountain railroads.

The last image shows a Builders Plate of engine 156, to illustrate how they would have originally been mounted on the front of the locomotive. Although not confirmed, I have heard that when most locomotives were taken out of service and scrapped in the 1950s, many of the Builder Plates were removed and sold to collectors. While the 634 engine was preserved and on display in Denver, Colorado, the original Builder Plate was no doubt removed and this casting made around that time.

This plaster casting is 17\" in diameter x 7/8\" thick and has two small holes for wall mounting. It is shown in one image next to a coke can in one image to show the size. It is in excellent condition with no chips.
A 8\"x6\" framed image and historical description is included for display next to the builder plate. The combination of this rare Builders Plate and framed description makes a unique addition and great conversation piece for any railfan\'s collection.
