This is an authentic antique unmounted Victorian jewelry piece,the insect is a real tortoise beetle from South America,imported to France c 1870-1900. These beautiful green beetles were popular displayed as Victorian jewelry due to the public interest in the natural world and also Egyptology.
The beetle's incredibly shiny green metallic finish is all natural, underneath all of the legs are intact as can be seen in pictures, they are a beautiful metallic pink and gold.
This item was included in a very old box of unset beetles, found years ago at a Paris flea market :) Last two pictures will show part of this collection, let me know if you need more than one beetle and I will match them as best as possible or as you request.
